April 2025 Further Weapons Intensive
Axe & Shield, and Knife:
For Intermediate and Advanced students
Versatility and the ability to adapt technique to different martial styles, whilst committing to tell an engaged story, is the mark of a great actor-combatant. On this course students will learn how to fight like a marauding Viking with Axe & Shield, battering their opponents with unrelenting force. It equips the performer with an understanding of how we can expand upon our technical ability to further play with rhythm, pace and power in the creation of a fight.
Knife: Close Quarter Combat. Learn how to wield one of the most commonly used edged weapons, focussing on martial technique, grappling and close quarter combat.
DATES:
Monday 14th to Wednesday 23rd April 2025
9am - 5pm. No classes on weekends; Monday classes finish at 4pm.
VENUE:
The Thanet Youth & Community Centre, Malden Road, Herbert St, London NW5 4HD.
WHO IT’S FOR:
Anyone looking to gain their Intermediate or Advanced Fighter status, with a minimum of a current Standard Level BADC qualification, and those adding to their current qualifications, or improving their results at Further Weapons level. Those with at least a Standard Level qualification from another Stage Combat training organisation (BASSC, APC) can be considered for the BADC Further Weapons training if their qualification is still valid.
WEAPONS COVERED:
This course will cover Axe & Shield, and Knife
This is an intensive course in which students will spend up to 50 hours learning to safely perform fight choreography in each of the fight disciplines stated above. This course will build upon the foundations gained on the Standard Level qualification, with students engaging with the dramatic and historic elements of each weapon system whilst presenting a technique that is hidden to the audience, to create a fully committed, truthful performance. Both of the weapon systems will incorporate a script.
As the requirements to obtain Intermediate or Advanced Fighter status have now changed within the BADC (two distinctions needed after Standard level for Intermediate and a further two distinctions to become Advanced), this course offers those students looking to improve upon past qualifications the best chance to hone their skills, improve technique and combine it with the dramatic intent needed to operate at the top level.
Students will have the opportunity at the end of the course to certify with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.
The test fee is included in the course price.
