Kiel is a certified combat instructor with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat, having originally trained as an actor. Upon graduating with a 1st Class BA hons, and MA in Acting, he found that he was being pulled towards fight performance as a form of story telling. After several years of working as an actor and fight performer he transitioned into fight direction and coordination, with a focus on how the fight changes the relationship between characters and enhances the narrative arc of the story told.
Kiel continues to teach accredited combat courses throughout the UK, privately and for Drama schools and Universities including Bath Spa Uni and East 15. It is this blend of performance, instructing and coordination experience that enables him to focus his work on the actorβs approach to the action, on how to communicate the story of the fight safely and facilitate the execution of the action creatively, whilst building an informed and developed process to the fight that works for actors and directors.
Kiel continues to work as a fight performer for screen and motion capture in stunt and spact roles, and specialises in historic martial combat in performance.
